FAQs

Here are frequently asked questions (FAQs) for online payments using UPI ID and QR code for investments in mutual funds:

What is UPI and how is it used for mutual fund investments?

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is a real-time payment system that allows investors to make secure and instant payments directly from their bank account to mutual fund companies using a UPI ID or by scanning a QR code.

How do I pay using UPI ID for mutual funds?

Choose the UPI option on the mutual fund platform, enter your UPI ID (Virtual Payment Address/VPA), and authenticate the transaction using your UPI app and mPIN. The payment is processed instantly, and your mutual fund investment is completed.

How does QR code payment work for mutual funds?

Mutual fund platforms display a QR code at the payment stage. Scan this code with your UPI app, verify details, enter the investment amount, and confirm the payment using your UPI PIN. This offers a fast and secure alternative to manual entry of UPI IDs.

Is it mandatory to use SEBI-validated UPI IDs for investments?

Yes. Starting October 1, 2025, payments to brokers, mutual funds, and other SEBI-registered intermediaries must be made using new verified UPI IDs featuring a recognizable intermediary name and ending in “@valid”.

How do I verify if a UPI ID or QR code is legitimate?

Use the “SEBI Check” tool or similar verification services offered by the investment platform to authenticate the UPI ID or QR code before making any payment. Look for the green triangle with a thumbs-up icon for validated intermediaries.

Can I invest using other payment methods?

Yes, you can still use NEFT, IMPS, cheques, or net banking if you prefer. UPI is an additional, convenient option.

What happens if a UPI payment fails during the investment process?

If a payment fails, consult your bank or UPI provider for issue resolution. Your investment will only be confirmed once funds reach the mutual fund account.

You can also get in touch with our customer service team for more information.

Are there transaction limits for UPI payments to mutual funds?

Yes. Banks set daily and per-transaction limits for UPI payments. You can check or adjust limits through your UPI app or bank customer service.

What are the benefits of using UPI and QR codes for mutual fund investments?

  • Fast and instant payment settlement.
  • Enhanced security due to verified payment channels.

Is it compulsory for the investors to use the new handle only?

The investors can choose their preferred mode of payment, such as UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, or Cheques. If an investor opts to use UPI for the payment to registered intermediaries, then they have to do so only using the new UPI IDs allotted to registered intermediaries.

What should I check while making payment using the new UPI IDs/ QR Code?

Investors need to keep following things into consideration:
1. The UPI ID should properly show the name of the intermediary, followed by the short abbreviation of their category for example “brk” for Brokers, “mf” for Mutual Funds to the left of the “@” character. 2. On the right side of the “@”, the new and exclusive handle “@valid” should be present, followed by the bank name.
3. On the confirmation screen, the app should show a white thumbs-up icon inside a green triangle.
4. The QR code generated using the utility will have a white thumbs-up icon inside a green triangle. It will also display the UPI ID just below the QR code.

Do investors also need to obtain new UPI handles to transact in the securities market?

No, the new UPI IDs are only for intermediaries to obtain and investors can continue to use their existing UPI IDs.

Whom to approach if my transaction/ payment fails with the new UPI ID?

The secure validated UPI ID of intermediaries will use the same banking channel as the earlier generic UPI handles. In case of any technical difficulty, investors are requested to approach their respective bank.
